"Music doesn't change the world, but it has its effects"

An interview with Daniel Hope

category: Essay
published in: das Orchester 01/2010, Page 32

In this interview, violinist Daniel Hope talks about his aim to widen access to classical music and to reduce mental barriers. Etiquette is one reason that may deter potential audiences (as shown, for example, in his book "Wann darf ich klatschen?" – "When may I applaud?"), high tickets prices are another. Yet especially during the current recession, classical music could enrich people's lives, and musicians and organisers are called upon to make access to concerts easier and cheaper. The experience of the life performance, Hope says, is inimitable.
